Musiq Soulchild killed my confidence in others.
Musiq Soulchild destroyed my Faith.
Harsh? Maybe. Even before Musiq sold out, I had a hard time putting my word, name, and/or faith behind people who had the potential of letting me down. In the past, I’ve taken risks putting my faith in things. Most of them held true. Kristy never let me down. Scifen has yet to let me down. Common never let me down. Little Brother has yet to let me down. It took me a while with Dilated Peoples, but now they have my backing… and Proudly might I add.
Publicly expressing which artists I enjoy listening to is synonmous with proclaiming my religious beliefs, boldly stating my political identity, or giving a bouncer my ID at the door. It shows who I am. the music I listen to represents me. So just like words, I choose wisely [see below]. However, as wise as I get for a 21 year old and as picky as I am with my music taste, I still make the same mistake of choosing the wrong people to support. Artists impress me off the bat, then (like most major record label artists) fall into the same faceless world that fitty lives in. It’s gross. And I’m hurt. It feels like I’ve been dumped… in public.

Kanye has been on my good list lately. I spent a ridiculous amount of precious time in the car these last few days, which gave me plenty of time to listen back through Late Registration and touch on Graduation. Surprisingly, Kanye made my time rolling well worth it. Stubbornly enough, the main reason I ever say I hate Kanye is simply because EVERYBODY loves him. He’s not exclusive to me. In my eyes, saying you love something everybody else already loves isn’t saying anything at all. However, as of late I’ve been in AWE.
Awe of talent, awe of style, awe of consistency.
Agree with me or not. It doesn’t really matter. Kanye has been my motivation in the last couple of days to “do work son!” So its on. Friday marks the start of a new day for me. Change is coming. Whether I like it or not. Musiq Soulchild sold out, whether I like it or not. Don’t believe me: Youtube Musiq’s new song On the Radio
On a lighter note, here’s a more recent release featuring Kanye that I’m bumping currently. Not my style usually, more like a guilty pleasure. I enjoy it. Leave it or love it.
