Few things.
Firstly, thank you. My first radio show of the semester went beautifully. I came in early, grabbed all the classic material I love out of the KCSC station library. Found some new independent music to promote, too. Then… just went for it. No real guidelines, no partner-in-crime, no special guests or anything. I had an okay time mixing and keeping a consistent flow. I feel like it went really well. Surprisingly, the most exciting part was right after I gave shout-outs half way through the show and (mistakenly and stupidly) forgot to mention a few important people. Next thing I know my Blackberry is blowing up with texts saying “You forgot meeee!” haha. (I digress: Just want to let you guys know that I was saving the best for last. You guys were just too impatient to wait for it) It was flattering though. To know I had listeners. Actually paying attention. Actually caring about what I played and what I said. Flattered, Ii was.
Reminds me of shows. When I rock and see somebody’s head nod. Or when I tell the crowd to put their hands in the air, WHEN, if you think about it is EXTREMELY pointless. My only explanation for having people put their hands in the sky would be that it serves as a visual response. Black music, especially Hip Hop was built on and relies on call and response. Whether it be between instrument and instrument, musician and vocalist, or performer and listener. In each example it takes both sides for music to operate correctly. Music should (and does) serve as a magnetic force. Music should (and does) bring people together rather than divide. However, (and I’m subject to the same force) it often seperates, segregates, and discriminates. I can’t lie, when someone tells me they dig Yung Joc… I’m just like… dawg?…ahhh, you get the picture?
Things have been going well in other things too. Eye-Que told me to drive slow homie, but I can’t. I have a need for speed. 200 something dollars for my last stupid speeding ticket. I support California Law Enforcement. Literally.
The title refers to how I feel right now. My friend is gone. I regret not keeping up with him. I want to be mad at the world. I want to cry a river. But that would be immature right? Maybe I’m just not as mature as I thought I was. So for now… I’m moody.
(It takes a catalyst to spark another power shift)
